Fertilizers, pesticides, and
water regulations, along with the increased labor costs of maintaining a golf
course, are putting strain on the golf-course industry’s financial and
management plans. I am interested in determining the most desirable way of
converting highly maintained Kentucky-bluegrass rough at golf courses to low
maintenance/no-mow grasses. Being able to properly convert to low-maintenance
grasses will allow a reduction in water, fertilizer, pesticides, man hours, and
equipment needed to maintain these areas. My research studies are located
at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn., and on the St.
Paul campus.
